The Undergraduate Major provides a rigorous course of study on Latin America including strong offerings in Latin American languages (Students may choose from Spanish, Portuguese, Andean Quichua and Haitian Creole). The Undergraduate Minor provides students with a solid foundation of instruction on Latin American topics to supplement their primary field. Students emerge with excellent training to enter the professional world or continue in Graduate or professional study related to Latin America.
The MA degree requirements exhibit an interdisciplinary perspective, emphasizing language competency and supervised field research. There is a thesis option (for students planning to continue in a PhD program) and a non-thesis option for those seeking professional employment. A graduate certificate in Latin American and Caribbean Studies is also available with three tracks: general, Central American and Mexican Studies, and Brazilian Studies.
