Dr. John Hoopes featured in Honduran Newspaper Series Special

Monday, July 16, 2012

Dr. John Hoopes featured in Honduran Newspaper Series Special : The Honduran newspaper "El Heraldo" has begun publishing a special series on the archaeology of the Honduran Moskitia this week. The series centers on the discovery of Ciudad Blanca, a place known to oral tradition but whose existence was never before confirmed, in the jungle. The site shows both Mesoamerican and Chibchan influences. KU's John Hoopes is among those interviwed for the series that began on July 16th.

Dr. Hoopes discusses the remains — including petroglyphs — in the context of what’s known about indigenous Chibchan-speaking cultures of southern Central America and comparisons with those of Costa Rica and Colombia.

The series is also being featured online: Emergen vestigios de Ciudad Blanca (link above).
