Outreach Speakers
The Center of Latin American Studies maintains a list of speakers who can present on various Latin American subjects. They are available - free of charge - to speak at a variety of venues including community groups, schools, government agencies, and libraries within a 60 mile radius of Lawrence, KS. Below is a list of available speakers with a brief description of their presentation. Please contact Catherine Butel at cbutel@ku.edu if you are interested in requesting a speaker. We appreciate advance notice of at least three weeks.

Presentation on Tereré (30 min): By Gabriel Racca (KU Student from Asunción, Paraguay)
Materials needed:
Computer
Projector (hooked up to the computer)
Presentation Description:
Gabriel will do a brief introduction about Paraguay, will do a presentation on the significance and history of Tereré (Paraguay's national drink). He is president of the student group Paraguay Kansas Committee.
Presentation on Brazilian Music (40 min): By Arnobio Morelix (KU Student from Belo Horizonte, Brazil)
Materials needed:
Computer with internet capability
Projector (hooked up to the computer)
Presentation Description:
Arnobio will do a brief introduction about Brazil, followed by a presentation on the sounds of Brazil using a variety of Brazilian musical instruments. He is a musician from the band "Safarico - Brazilian Rhythm Made in Kansas" and is also Social Chair of the Brazilian Student Association.
Presentation on the indigenous Miskitu and Afro-descent peoples of the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua (40 min): By Stacey Burton (KU Latin American Studies Graduate Student)
Materials needed:
Computer with internet capability
Projector (hooked up to the computer)
Presentation Description:
Stacey will do a presentation on the lives and culture of the Miskitu and Afro-descent peoples of Nicaragua. Additionally, she will talk about her research and the time she spent in Puerto Cabezas in Nicaragua.
