Undergraduate Committee

The Undergraduate Committee provides oversight for matters concerning the B.A. and B.G.S. Programs in Latin American Studies.

Minutes are to be sent to all committee members for approval and to the Director. Approved minutes are to be disseminated to LAS faculty on a timely basis.

Standing Charges

  1. Provide oversight for matters concerning the B.A. and B.G.S. Programs in Latin American Studies.
  2. Revise program information and update undergraduate booklets, website, and related materials. Nominate undergraduate students for on-campus scholarships and fellowships.
  3. Advise the Director and Undergraduate Director on curriculum planning, review, and revision of the undergraduate program, helping coordinate with other departments and disciplines across campus.
  4. Appoint a subcommittee to hear and evaluate undergraduate student petitions and grievances.
  5. Coordinate undergraduate assessment and senior exit surveys.

Specific Charges for 2011-12

  1. Revise the major: develop and recommend for approval a revised Latin American Studies Undergrad Major (Bachelor of Arts Degree).
  2. Develop and recommend for approval a new course, LAA 300-- Interdisciplinary Themes in Latin American Studies.
  3. Develop guidelines for teaching LAA 100, Latin American Culture and Society.
  4. Develop a proposal and submit for approval an Indigenous Nations Minor in Latin American Studies.
  5. Develop recruitment strategies.
  6. Review and evaluate the current Learner Outcomes Assessment pilot plan, and oversee the implementation of the plan.
